Many people in todays society who hear the word wellness often confuse it as being just another word for health promotion, total fitness, proper nutrition or other forms of alternative medicine”. Although wellness uses ideas and concepts from all of these other disciplines, to achieve true wellness one has to view their life in terms of achieving a higher state of well being in all aspects of their life.

Wellness is much more than just an absence of disease, a fancy weight loss plan or an expensive membership at a health club. Wellness is your most valuable asset. It's not your house, your car, your job or all the money you have in the bank. It's your life, more specifically the quality of life that you experience, the happiness that you feel, peace of mind that you achieve and the fulfillment in knowing that you are living true to yourself as well as achieving a high degree of health. |
Starting a life long wellness plan is not one of them. Most health care professionals today view Wellness as a multidimensional or holistic approach to health and quality of life. It’s important to see that all the dimensions are interrelated. Only when each of these dimensions is viewed as part of the whole, and within the context of the individual’s own environment, can the degree or level of Wellness be determined.
